The Pillars of Submission

Although we do not see the words "Pillars of Submission" as such in the Quran, this is merely a phrase that speaks of the principle practices of the religion of Submission. These five practices constitute the foundation of Submission, they are:

1- Testimony of Faith / Shahada

2- The Prayer / Al-Salat

3- The Obligatory Charity / Al-Zakat

4- The Fasting (of Ramadan) / Al-Siyaam

5- The Pilgrimage / Al-Hajj

Important Notice

The details presented here for each of the five Pillars of Islam are a presentation of what is contained and authorized in the Quran and nothing else.

Consequently, many rules/practices that are taken for granted and considered by many Muslims to be integral parts of Islamic practice are absent here simply because they are not authorized in the Quran.

Let us reflect on what God says in the Quran:

[6:114] Shall I seek other than God as a source of law, when He has revealed to you this book fully detailed? Those who received the scripture recognize that it has been revealed from your Lord, truthfully. You shall not harbor any doubt.

[33:2] Follow what is revealed to you from your Lord. God is fully Cognizant of everything you all do.

[42:21] They follow idols (shuraka {partners}) who decree for them religious laws never authorized by God. If it were not for the predetermined decision, they would have been judged immediately. Indeed, the transgressors have incurred a painful retribution.

Each Quran reader should consider that all laws are found within the Quran completely, and all rites have been passed down since the time of Abraham.
