[6:141] He is the One who established gardens, trellised and untrellised, and palm trees, and crops with different tastes, and olives, and pomegranate - fruits that are similar, yet dissimilar. Eat from their fruits [if they ripen]*, and give the due alms on the day of harvest,* and do not waste anything. He does not love the wasters.
[2:110] You shall observe the Contact Prayers (Salat) and give the obligatory charity (Zakat). Any good you send forth on behalf of your souls, you will find it at GOD. GOD is seer of everything you do.
Understanding Zakat
Zakat is the third pillar of Submission (Islam). It represents a mandatory charity of 2.5% of one's income on the day they get paid. Weekly, Bi-Weekly, Monthly, or Yearly calculations are all acceptable.
[2:215] They ask you about giving: say, "The charity (Zakat) you give shall go to (1) the parents, (2) the relatives, (3) the orphans, (4) the poor, and the (5) traveling alien." Any good you do, God is fully aware thereof.
Zakat serves as a means of social welfare, ensuring that resources circulate within the community and reach those in need. The above are recipients of Zakat. If your income is $100, your due alms would be $2.50, which would be evenly split between the 5 recipients.
