Al-Hajj (Pilgrimage) is the fifth pillar of Submission and represents a once-in-a-lifetime journey to the Sacred Mosque in Mecca for those who are physically and financially able. This profound act of worship was established by Abraham and represents a return to the origins of pure monotheism.
The Hajj may be performed at any time during the four Sacred Months - Dhul-Hijjah, Muharram, Safar, and Rabi al-Awwal (2:197, 9:36; see The Months of Hajj). During this pilgrimage, millions of believers from around the world gather to perform the same rituals that Abraham performed thousands of years ago, uniting in their worship of God Alone.
